Barbecue Party / 感謝祭のごちそう!? [Life]
昨日はかつて仕事でお世話になったWさんのバーベキューパーティーに誘われ、お宅へ伺うことに。神奈川県の葉山に行ってきました。
I was invited to the Barbecue Party of Mrs.W indebted on business before, so I went to her house at Hayama in Kanagawa Prefecture.

お庭でバーベキューとは、ステキです。辺りがまっ暗になるまで、食べて、飲んで、談笑していました。 We had a great time (eating, drinking, talking...) until it had been very dark. |

『サングリア』はスペインの飲み物で、リンゴ・洋梨・オレンジなどの果物を皮付き（輪切り）で入れ、赤ワインで浸けたもの。とにかく美味！パーティーの名脇役として活躍していました。
ちなみに飲み終わった後の果実（右）はマズくて食べられないのだそうです。
少し遅れた感謝祭のごちそう、とでも言いましょうか…。
満喫した一日でした。Wさんご夫妻はじめ、みなさんありがとう!!

It was so tasty! It goes well with the party.
By way of parenthesis, the fruit after having finished drinking it (the right side of above photo) is terrible taste, so we can't eat it.
It looked like late Thanksgiving Dinner!?

World Diabetes Day / 世界糖尿病デー [Life]
去る、11/14は『世界糖尿病デー』。
インスリンを発見したフレデリック・バンティングの誕生日にちなみ定められたもので、毎年この日を中心に各国ではさまざまな啓蒙活動が行われているのだそうです。
そういえば、翌15日朝のフジテレビ(CX)『とくダネ！』のオープニングトークでは、自身も糖尿病である司会の小倉智昭さんがこの件を取り上げていましたね。また、プロダクト分野の話で言うと、2005年度グッドデザイン大賞でテルモ株式会社の『インスリン用注射針(ナノパス33)』が選ばれていたのが記憶に新しい…。
ところで糖尿病と言うと、すぐさま生活習慣病を連想してしまいますが、それは2型糖尿病のことを指すのだそうです。実は私の真ん中の妹が、20代後半の時に1型糖尿病（＊）を発症し、それ以来、糖尿病には種類があることを知りました。
（＊）１型糖尿病は10万人に1人の確率で発症し、その患者の多くは20歳未満が殆どのため、かつては小児糖尿病またはインスリン依存型糖尿病と呼ばれていました。自身でインスリンの生産もしくは十分な量のインスリンを作れないため、毎日のインスリン注射（およそ日に4回）を余儀なくされています。
さて、そんな妹から先日嬉しいお知らせが。
世界糖尿病デーにあたり、デンマークに本社を置く糖尿病ケアのリーディングカンパニー、ノボ ノルディスク ファーマ株式会社が『ノボ ノルディスク糖尿病エッセイ大賞』を開催。なんと妹は初エッセイにもかかわらず、佳作受賞とのこと。おめでとう！
尚、主催会社のサイトに受賞作品が閲覧できるようになっているのですが、残念ながら佳作作品は掲載されておりません…。
妹の快諾を得て、ここに掲載することにしました。

Every November 14th is "World Diabetes Day". In Japan, some events were held as well as foreign countries.
World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on 14 November. The date was chosen as it is the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922. While many events take place on or around the day itself, themed campaigning is spread over the whole year.

And in the area of product design, TERUMO CORPORATION developed the thinnest needles for insulin injections "Nano pass 33" which won the Grand Prize at "Good Design Award 2005" in Japan.
The reason why I am talking about diabetes is ...., because my middle sister became diabetes.
She became Type1 diabetes when she had been in her late twenties. And I didn't know that there're some types in diabetes till then.
By the way, the other day, I got the good news from middle sister.
She won a fine work at Novo Nordisk Essay Competition (Organized by Novo Nordisk Pharma Ltd. which is the world's leading diabetes care company). Congratulations!

Art and Design Week / 芸術の秋 [Art&Design]
友人の誘いもあって、久々展覧会に足を運んで参りました。
中でも印象的だったものを２つ紹介します。
まず、六本木AXISギャラリーにて11/5（日）まで開催されていた「吉岡徳仁展 スーパーファイバーレボリューション」。
雲が浮いているような空間に、今年のミラノサローネ（＊）で注目を浴びた「PANE chair」があちこちに展示されており、自由に触れることができます。

I went to some exhibitions after a long time by my friend's invitation. I'll show two impressive exhibitions.
For one thing, it's "Tokujin Yoshioka - Super Fiber Revolution" which were held until 5th November at AXIS gallery in Roppongi (Tokyo) .
This space looked like "cloud", and there were several "PANE chair" which were in the spotlight at the "Salone Internazionale del Mobile" in this year. All visitors could touch them.

何よりも座る人の体型の大小を問わないのが素晴らしい。
実際に座ってみると、ふわふわと包まれる感じで気持ちイイ…。
当日は最終日だったこともあり、大勢の観客でひしめきあっていました。
吉岡氏ご本人も会場にいらして、購入した作品集にサインをしていただけることに。
憧れの先輩に出会えて嬉しかったですね。いろいろパワーを頂いた気がします。
It's wonderful not to restrict all visitor's size of figure when they sit down.
When I sat down actually, I felt so comfortable because it was fluffy.
Because of the last day, there were many visitors.
Fortunately, I met Mr.Yoshioka and he signed his autograph to the collection of his works titled "Tokujin Yoshioka Design (Phaidon Press)" which I bought. I was grad to have met the senior of the same design school. His works gave me a lot of power.
もう一つは森美術館の「ビル・ヴィオラ：はつゆめ」展。
絵画がそのまま映像になったような世界…。思わず息を呑む場面も。
生と死を長年テーマにされているだけあって、作品は時に哲学的であり、感銘を受けつつも、深く考えさせられました。

For another, it's "Bill Viola : Hatsu-Yume (First Dream)" which is now open at Mori Art Museum.
He's been using "Life" and "Death" as his subjects for long time. His works were very impressive and philosophical for me and I dropped into deep thought.

Meeting Friends [Life]
先週から今週にかけて、連日立て続けに、友人と会食しておりました。
再会した人たちは、かつての取引先や、数年ぶりに来日した海外の友人だったり、ジャンルも話題もさまざま。とにかく有意義な一週間でした。
さすがに胃腸がバテ気味ですが…（笑）。
食欲の秋、芸術の秋…、紅葉も始まったこの季節。
じっくりと味わっていきたいですね。
I met some friends every day and night from last week to this week. The people who met again are the once customers before, the overseas friends who visited Japan after an interval of several years, and so on. They were various genres and having topics. So I spent the great time for a week.
Certainly, my stomach and intestines have been tired out...
In Japan, it is said that the autumn is the best season to do for "Eating", "Appreciating Art", "Reading Books". The leaves have been turning yellow and red in Japan. So I'll try to appreciate many things!

Souvenir from Seoul / ソウルみやげ [Journey]
今回、韓国みやげとして購入したものは、「キムチ」と「韓国のり」、そして「柚子茶」。日本ではすでに馴染み深いこともあって、どれも喜ばれましたね。
The things which I bought as "Souvenir from Seoul" this time are "Kimchi","Korean Seasoned Laver", and "Citron Tea". In Japan, we are already familiar with them, so they were good for gifts.
ところで、妹と一緒に買ったクゥちゃん（←犬です）へのおみやげ。
By the way, I bought the souvenir to Coo-chan(<--dog name) with my sister.

We bought the toy which makes sound and a pair of the hairpins. They're very cheep as compared with Japan. |

残念ながらヘアピンはすぐ振り落としてしまいます…（笑）。
However, she shakes the hairpins off right away... |
おもちゃは吸い付きようが違いますね…。逃げ足も早い〜。
She loves this toy! So she's quick to run away~.

Esthetics Experience in Seoul / 韓国式エステ体験 [Beauty]
日本にいるとなかなか気軽に体験出来ないエステ。
日頃の疲れを癒すべく、友人のすすめもあって、汗蒸幕（ハンジュンマク）のお店へ妹と行ってきました。
汗蒸幕（한증막／ハンジュンマク）とは、石組みのドームの中に薪が焚かれ、超高温の中に入って汗をかくという、韓国伝統のサウナ。今回は時間が無くてたまたま入った明洞（ミョンドン）のお店でしたが、日本語が普通に通じるのでびっくり。日本人観光客が大勢来るらしく、日本円での支払いもOKらしい…（笑）。
今回は、サウナ、数種類のお風呂での入浴、アカスリ、キュウリパック、軽めのマッサージなどが含まれた基本コース（約１時間半）にオプションの全身マッサージ（約１時間）をチョイス。終わる頃には体全体が軽くなった気が…。ちなみに全身マッサージには足のツボ押しもあって、とにかく気持ちが良くスヤスヤと眠ってしまった私。隣にいた妹はあまりの痛さに眠るどころか、のたうちまわっていたそうな。もしかして私は健康体ってことかしら？？おかげで翌日は、気持ちよく日本に戻ってくることができました。
時たま非日常な体験も良いものですね〜。
When I'm in Japan, I don't go to the "Esthetics" easily, because it's is expensive image...
Anyway, during my stay in Seoul, I and my sister went to the "한증막 / Hanjungmak (=Fire Sweating Bath)" on my friend's advice. It's well-known for the traditional sauna style in Korea.
Because of no time, we happened to enter the certain place in Myeongdong.
We were astonished at their speaking Japanese and being able to pay by Japanese Yen. Probably I guess many Japanese tourists come here.
We tried the "Women's Standard Course (About 90mins)" which included the sweating bath, several kinds of bath, massage and body cleansing (=Japanse;Akasuri) , and additional course of the "Massage for the Whole Body (About 60mins)". When the course had finished, I felt my body lighten.
In this connection, the massage for the whole body course included the foot vital point massage. It was very comfortable for me, so I had slept easily. But my sister next to me tumbled about the foot vital point massage, because she felt sore. It means she had lots tired regions. I am in good health, amn't I !? The next day, I was able to come back to Japan comfortably.
It's good that I sometimes try to do unusual experiences.

Interesting Sign in Seoul / ソウルのおもしろ看板 [Journey]
ソウルを歩いていると、時折、立体看板が目に飛び込んできます。
When I walked around in the Seoul City, I had sometimes found some interesting signs.

Every town have features, so I enjoyed seeing them very much.

At the Seoul City / ソウルの街なかで [Journey]
ソウルの街なかを歩いていると、どういう訳かよく道などを尋ねられます。やはり見た目が似ているからでしょうか…？
おかげで覚えた言葉がこれ。
「미안합니다 한국말 못해요（ミアナンミダ ハングンマル モッテヨ）」
これは「ごめんなさい、韓国語は話せません。」の意。
また行く機会があったら、もう少し話せるようにはなりたいものですね…。

When I walked within the Seoul City, somehow, I was often asked the way and something from Korean people. After all my looks is similar to the locals.
So I learned(=used a lot) these sentences from that experience.
"미안합니다 한국말 못해요"
It means "I'm sorry, I can't speak Korean".
If the occasion arises to go to Korea again, I wish to speak Korean well...
