Go to Kyoto / いざ、京都へ。 [Journey]

ようやく取れた遅い夏休みを利用して、先週京都へ行ってきました。

I went to Kyoto just last week to use my late summer vacation.

かれこれ15年以上も訪れていなかった京都。新しい京都駅（1997年竣工）や東京と少し違った人の往来の多さに、ただただ目を丸くするばかり…。ともあれ、今回の旅は、新しい創作テーマに関する取材も兼ねた大人の修学旅行。神社仏閣、庭の見学を中心にざっくりと日本の歴史の一部を肌で感じてきました。

I haven't been to Kyoto for more than 15 years. When I arrived at the Kyoto station, I opened my eyes wide with in wonder because of new Kyoto station (completion in 1997) and a lot of traffic which was a little different from Tokyo. Anyway, this trip was partly research for new theme of my creation and partly for pleasure. That is, so to speak, a school excursion for adult. I focused on seeing gardens, temples, and shrines, and I really felt a part of Japanese history.

今回の旅でとても役に立ったのが、友人がすすめてくれたガイド本"Lonely Planet (ロンリープラネット)"の"Kyoto"ヴァージョン。外国の方が執筆しているにも拘らず、痒い所に手が届くような情報満載で、これから京都を旅する方にはオススメの1冊かもしれません。（但し、日本語版がまだ出ていないのが残念なのですが…。）

By the way, the "Kyoto City Guide" of "Lonely Planet" which was recommended by one of my friends was very useful guidebook. Although it was written by foreigner, there are a lot of useful information that I would like to recommend for someone who will go on a trip to Kyoto from now. (Unfortunately, they don't publish Japanese version yet...)

The Fruit of My Travels / 旅を終えて。 [Journey]

昨日、無事に帰国しました。
I returned home safely yesterday.

At the Narita International Airport (Japan) 成田国際空港にて

到着ロビーでは、気分だけでもお正月が味わえる感じで、なんだかホッとした私…。やはり日本人なのですね。

	At the lobby of the South Wing Arrival 南ウィング到着ロビーにて When I got to the lobby of the South Wing Arrival, there was a decoration for the New Year, so that I could feel the merry atmosphere of the New Year and felt relieved.
	When all is said and done, I seem to be a typical Japanese...

さて、今回の旅はクラリネット演奏はもちろんですが、様々な文化や人々との交流があったのも事実。素敵な出会いも沢山ありました。

中には私の作品に興味を持って下さる方もいて、昨年11月の展覧会ファイルをお見せしたところ、とあるプロジェクトに参加してみませんか、とのお誘いが!! 実現するかは分かりませんが、もしそうなったら面白いことになりそうな予感…。あと少しずつですが、次作品の構想・イメージも湧いてきています。

そんなこんなで、私にとっては収穫の多い旅でした。
もちろんこれは私一人では到底できないこと。
話を持ちかけて下さったTさんをはじめ、支えて下さった多くの方々には本当に感謝しています。ありがとうございました。

ところで、まだまだ披露していない光景多数…。
今後少しずつ紹介していくつもりですので、どうぞお楽しみに。

Well, as a matter of fact, I could experience at this journey the cultural exchange and could mix with the local people.

Some of people were interested in my works. So I showed my solo exhibition's portfolio which was held on last November. And someone suggested a certain project to me. Though I don't know that comes true, if it could come true, I would have a feeling it is going to be fun.

And also, my mental image of next work was fleshed out considerably by this trip.
Anyway, this journey was of great value to me. I could see the various kinds of world this time. Everyone, including T-san who invited me, I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

By the way, there are a lot of scenes which I can't introduce yet. So I hope to show them little by little in future.

A Brief Visiting in Basel / 束の間のバーゼル滞在。 [Journey]

バート・ガスタインを後にした私はその後、ザルツブルグ（オーストリア）、シュトゥットガルト（ドイツ）、ストラスブール（フランス）を経て、妹夫婦の住むスイス・バーゼルへとやってきました。

After I left Bad Gastein, I went to Basel (Switzerland) where my sister and her husband live, via Salzburg (Austria), Stuttgart (Germany), Strasbourg (France).

At the station of Bahnhof Basel SNCF Bahnhof Basel SNCF 駅にて 駅構内には売店もなく、なんだか寂しい印象でした…。 There were no station kiosks, so I felt loneliness...

今回はフランス国鉄を利用してのバーゼル入りだったので、Bahnhof Basel SNCF（バーゼルSNCF／フランス国鉄バーゼル）駅に到着することになりました。

昨年夏に訪れたドイツ鉄道のバーゼル・バディッシャー駅同様、こちらもスイス領内でありながら、駅構内はフランスの関税領域に含まれるのだそうです。

This time, I arrived to the Bahnhof Basel SNCF (French National Railway Company), because I used SNCF.

The Bahnhof Basel SNCF is located on Swiss territory as well as the Basel Badischer Bahnhof (Deutsche Bahn) where I visited last summer, but the station hall is treated as an inner-French station and is operated by the SNCF.

The Passport Control 出入国管理エリア そのため全ての乗客は必ずここを通ることになります。 パスポートチェックはしっかりと…。 For that reason all passengers have to pass through this area. Our passports were firmly checked...

ところで、スイスはEU圏ではないため、私のようにドイツ〜オーストリア〜フランスとEU圏を経由し、購入品の税金還付を受けたい者は最後にEU圏を出る時に、税関のスタンプをもらわないといけません。パスポートコントロールを受けてから職員の方に、税関のスタンプが欲しい旨伝えると、人気（ひとけ）の全くない暗〜い奥の間へ通されました。

そして待つこと数分…。
ようやくスタンプの押された書類が戻ってきました。やれやれ。

By the way, Switzerland is not the Euro zone. If someone who travelled through the Euro zone as well as I, wants to get the tax refund of purchase, they have to get the Euro zone's customs-stamps when they leave the last Euro zone. So I had to get customs-stamps before I entered Swiss area. After finish the passport control, I asked the staff how to get customs-stamps. And then I was guided to the dark deserted back room.

And waiting for a few minutes...
At last, I could receive the stamped document. I felt relieved.

ここを出て…、晴れて無事、スイスに入国！ I went away from here... Anyway, I entered Switzerland!

迎えに来てくれた妹とようやく対面することができました。
（結局到着から20分近く待たせてしまうことに…。妹よ〜、本当に申し訳ない！）

I could finally meet my sister who came for me. (She seemed to have waited for about 20 minutes from when I arrived at the station. Sorry my sister~!!)

妹夫婦宅へ到着後、旅の話ですっかり盛り上がり、気がつけば夜！

翌朝日本へ帰国する私を気遣って、妹夫婦が（妹のパートナーである義弟が勤務するホテルでの）ディナーに招待してくれました。

After arriving to my sister and her husband's house, we talked about my journey. We got so caught up in our conversation that we didn't notice how late it was getting. (It was already dinner time!)

Maybe out of concern for me (next morning, I had to leave for Japan!), then they invited me to the hotel dinner. (My brother-in-law works at the hotel).

メインはやはり、スイス料理の定番『チーズ・フォンデュ』。 小さく角形に切って串に刺したパンに絡めていただきます。（チーズ好きの私にはたまりません〜。） ワインが隠し味で効いていて、本当に美味でした！

The main dish was a cheese fondue.
We dipped the cheese with a square-shaped bread which was skewered. (I like cheese!) It was so tasty because wine was added in this cheese fondue.

Doing the sights of Bad Gastein / バート・ガスタイン観光。 [Journey]

年末のクリスマスコンサート後に、トリオメンバーと一緒にBad Gastein（バート・ガスタイン）をざっと観光することに。

After the Christmas concert in 2008, I went sightseeing in Bad Gastein briefly with Trio member.

Bad Gasteinはオーストリアのザルツブルグ州にあり、ザルツブルグから国際長距離列車(ユーロシティ、EC)もしくはオーストリア連邦鉄道の特急(ÖEC)で約１時間40分、山々に囲まれた温泉保養地で、冬は多くのスキー客で賑わいます。ドイツ皇帝や貴族、文化人など著名人が数多く訪れた所としても有名なのだとか。地名にある"Bad（バート）"とは入浴、浴室、湯治場の意で、まさに地名通りの街といったところ。私が行った頃は、ちょうど冬の寒さの厳しい頃で、連日-10℃近い気温でした。

Bad Gastein is located in the state of Salzburg in Austria, where it takes about one hour and 40 minutes by EuroCity (EC) or ÖBB-EuroCity (ÖEC) from Salzburg. It is a spa town surrounded by mountains, and in the winter, this town is crowded with skiers. This town is well-known as a visiting place of distinguished people from various fields in former times, the Kaiser (Some Emperors of Germany), the nobility and cultured people. The name of "Bad" means "bath" in English. I think it reflects the town's background. When I went to there, the temperature was about minus ten degrees of coldness every day.

山間にある宿泊先から街の中心部までは歩いて20分ほど。景色を眺めているだけでも楽しいものです。 It is about 20 minutes to the center of the town on foot from the hotel in the mountains. I was very happy even if I only look at scenery.

途中、とある広場にてオーストリアの作曲家フランツ・シューベルトとヨハン・シュトラウス２世のレリーフを発見。この町に訪れていたようです。

On the way to the center of the town, we found some relief of Franz Schubert and Johann Strauss II (Sohn) who were Austrian composer at a certain platz (square).

They seemed to have visited this town.

そして町の中心部にある名所の滝（Wasserfall）へ。

At the Wasserfall Wasserfallにて さすがに凍っておりました…。

And we went to the Wasserfall (Waterfall) where it is in the center of the town.

It was frozen hard as expected...

滝の近くには他にカジノや会議場などもあるのだそうです。

There are also a Casino and a Kongresshaus (Conference hall) and etc, near the waterfall.

	ここ（ツーリスト・インフォメーション）で町の地図（無料）を入手しました。 I got a free map at this Tourist Information.
	ツーリスト・インフォメーション前にあった案内板。それにしても、数が多いですね…。 These are information boards on this side of the Tourist Information. Anyway, so many signs...

さらに歩き、別の山側を歩く途中、さまざまな様式の建物に出会いました。

When we walked in the side of the other mountain, we saw various style of buildings.

そして、この道路脇でも…　And also around the road...

凍ってました、それも激しく…（笑）。つららのオンパレードなり。
It was frozen more... It is an array of icicles!

St. Preims Kirche (Church) 一通り市内観光を終え、最後に教会を見て私たちは帰路につきました。 On our way to the hotel, we saw the church lastly.

ホテルに着いてから、地元の名水（炭酸水）『Gasteiner』を注文。
とても飲みやすい炭酸水でした。

Gasteiner When we got to the hotel, I ordered the famed local mineral water (carbonated) called "Gasteiner". It was smooth and drinkable.

ともあれ、Bad Gasteinづくしの一日は終わりました。
次回は冬のスポーツ篇です。

Anyhow, the full of Bad Gastein was over.
The next number is about winter sports!

Travel Sketch (Basel-1) / タビノキロク(バーゼル編1) [Journey]

スイス北西部、ライン川のほとりにあるバーゼルは、ドイツ、フランス、スイスと３国が隣接する国境の街で、３つの主要駅があります。

まず、ライン川の南岸にある中央駅、スイス国鉄のBahnhof Basel SBB（バーゼルSBB／スイス国鉄バーゼル）駅。その西側には隣接してフランス国鉄のBahnhof Basel SNCF（バーゼルSNCF／フランス国鉄バーゼル）駅があり、ライン川北岸の新市街と呼ばれる地区にはドイツ鉄道のBasel Badischer Bahnhof（バーゼル・バディッシャー／ドイツ鉄道バーゼル）駅があります。

Basel is located in north-west Switzerland on the river Rhine and borders both Germany and France. Therefore, there are three main station in Basel.
The first one is the central station which is Bahnhof Basel SBB (Swiss Federal Railways). And the second is the Bahnhof Basel SNCF (French National Railway Company) which is adjacent the central station. They are located in south shore in the river Rhine. And the third is the Basel Badischer Bahnhof (Deutsche Bahn) which is located in north shore in the river Rhine called New Town.

私がドイツ・ケルンからドイツ鉄道 Deutsche Bahn (DB)に乗ってバーゼルに向かう際、終点のスイス国鉄バーゼル駅（Bahnhof Basel SBB）まで行ってしまうと、スイスの賃率が加算されてしまうため、敢えて一つ手前の駅、バーゼル・バディッシャー駅（Basel Badischer Bahnhof）で降りることになりました。

When going from Cologne in Germany to Basel by Deutsche Bahn, I got off at the Basel Badischer Bahnhof which is one station before at the terminal station (Bahnhof Basel SBB). Because if I would go to the terminal station of Swiss Federal Railways, the Swiss fare rate is added.

直通列車もあるのですが、時刻の関係で私はマンハイム乗り換えで目的地へ向かうことに。

Though there is a through train to Basel, I changed trains at Mannheim HBF.

Mannheim HBF マンハイム中央駅 ちなみに夕方６時過ぎでこの明るさ。まるで昼下がりのようで、オドロキです。 Although it was past 6pm, it was very bright there as same as early afternoon. (I was very surprised!)

バーゼル・バディッシャー駅はスイス領内でありながら、駅構内はドイツの関税領域に含まれるのだそうです。

The Basel Badischer Bahnhof is located on Swiss territory, but the station hall is treated as an inner-German station and is operated by the Deutsche Bahn.

The Passport and Customs Controls 出入国管理と税関エリア 駅に出入りする旅行者は必ずここ（ホームと駅構内の間にあるトンネル）を通ります。 用意していたパスポートも、特に見せることなくそのまま通過…。

All passenger has to go through this area which is located in a tunnel between the platforms and the station hall.
However, I didn't have a chance to show my passport.

ようやくスイスへ入国！ 駅構内では早速スイスらしさを感じるものが目につきます。 あちこちでスイスのマークが見受けられるのにはびっくり。

Anyway, I entered Switzerland!
I could see some Swiss goods at the station hall. I saw some goods with Swiss mark everywhere. (I was very surprised when I saw them.)

なんと、牛のオブジェまでも…。いやはや、オドロキました（笑）。

Travel Sketch (Bonn) / タビノキロク（ボン編） [Journey]

ケルンでの２日弱の滞在を経て、スイス・バーゼルへの移動日。
昼過ぎまで時間があったので、ボンへ行ってくることにしました。

After my stay in Köln (Cologne) that is a little less than 2 days, the day of departure to Basel has come.
I have a little time, so that I decided to go to Bonn.

ケルンからドイツ鉄道 Deutsche Bahn (DB)に乗って約20分。
かつて西ドイツ時代の首都でもあったボンは、ベートーヴェンやシューマンらの縁の地ともあって、一度は訪れておきたい都市の一つです。

Bonn HBF ボン中央駅 It takes about 20 minutes by Deutsche Bahn (DB) from Köln HBF to Bonn HBF.

Bonn was once the capital of the Former West Germany, and is well-known as a place remembered in connection with Beethoven and Schumann and others. So it was one of the cities which I want to visit once.

中央駅そばにある観光案内所で市内地図を入手した後、ざっと市内を観光します。

After I had gotten a city map of Bonn at the Tourist Information, I saw the sights of the city roughly.

観光案内所そばにあるミュンスター広場にはベートーヴェンの像が…。
ボンに来たことを改めて実感できる場所です。また前方にはミュンスター寺院があります。

There is a Beethoven Memorial at Münsterplatz which is near the Tourist Information.
This is the place that I can feel the realization that came to Bonn. And there is a Münster (Minster) ahead.

風情のある町並みを抜けて行くとマルクト広場が見えてきます。
ここは日本でいう朝市のようで、大勢の人でにぎわっていました。

When I went through the tasteful city, I reached Markt where it was crowded with many people.

そしてどうしても行っておきたかった『ベートーヴェン・ハウス』へ。

Beethoven-Haus (Beethoven House) ベートーヴェン・ハウス Then I went to the "Beethoven House" where I wanted to go.

ベートーヴェンは1770年にこの家の一室で生まれました。ほぼ当時のままに保存されているこの生家は、内部を記念館として、自筆の楽譜、絵画、ポートレート、使用した楽器や補聴器など、世界中から集められたベートーヴェンに関する多くの資料が展示されています。もちろん、生まれた部屋も見ることができます。（大理石の胸像だけが置かれていていました！）

150点以上にもおよぶ展示品から偉大な作曲家の人生や仕事ぶり、考えや感情を垣間見ることができます。

This is the house where Beethoven was born in 1770. Mostly maintained in its original condition, the building now accommodates the biggest Beethoven collection world-wide; original manuscripts and first editions of meaningful works, paintings and portraits, instruments and his hear trumpets. It is also possible to see the room in which Beethoven was born. (There was only a statue in marble in this room!)

More than 150 original exhibits provides a deeper insight into the life, his way of thinking, feeling, and work of the great composer.

ミュージアムショップではハガキとパンフレットを購入。
商品を入れる袋（白と黒）にはピアノソナタ第14番『月光』の３楽章が印刷されていました。

I bought some postcards and a brochure at museum shop.The 3rd Movement of Piano Sonata No. 14 "Moonlight" was printed on the paper bags (white, black).

わずか３時間弱の滞在でしたが、それなりに満喫したボンでした。
このあと一旦ケルンに戻り、次はいよいよスイス・バーゼルへと向かいます。

Though I stayed about 3 hours, I could enjoy Bonn-City.
And then, I return to Cologne once, and the next leaves for Basel in Switzerland.

Travel Sketch (Köln) / タビノキロク（ケルン編） [Journey]

旅のはじめは、ドイツ・ケルンから。
I went to Köln (Cologne) in Germany at the beginning of the journey.

Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral), Hohenzollenbrücke (bridge) and Rhein　ケルン大聖堂とホーエンツォレルン橋、そしてライン川

夏に訪れるのは今回が初めてで、久々訪れたケルンは、日中は強い日差しで暑く、かと思えば、朝晩は急に肌寒くなったりで、着るものの調節に若干戸惑うことも。でも日本と違い湿気がなく、暑いといってもカラっとしていて、汗もあまり出ません。ただし、日焼け対策は必須ですが…。

That was the first time I went to there in summer season. Though the diurnal weather was piping hot, in the mornings and evenings, it was chilly. So I was puzzled about how to choose of my clothes. The climate is different from Japan; I never felt warm and sweaty because it's not humid, fine and clear. However, we need to safeguard our skin against sunburn...

まずは降り立ったケルン中央駅。
ベルギーやオランダ、フランスからの国際列車が頻繁に発着するドイツの西の玄関口です。

At first, I got off at the Köln Hbf.

	At the Köln Hbf (Hauptbahnhof/Central Station) ケルン中央駅にて 駅のホームからもそびえ立つ大聖堂を眺めることができます。 We can see the Kölner Dom from the platform.
	This station is the hub station, and so many international trains arrive and depart from Belgium, Netherlands, and France, and so on.

そして、世界遺産のケルン大聖堂。
ここは鮮やかなステンドグラスや絵画、彫刻等があり、そこに佇むだけでも素晴らしい空間です。また有料（２ユーロ）ですが、塔の中を登ることもできます。
塔の中を登ったことがある私は、今回はざっと見て回るだけにしました。

Kölner Dom ケルン大聖堂 And I went to the Kölner Dom which is the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Because there are some vivid stained glass, picture, and rich carving, this place is wonderful. Besides, we can ascend the south tower. (2 Euro)
I just ran through this place because I've ever ascended the tower.

その後、大聖堂近くから発着している汽車型観光バス"Zoo-Express"に乗って約20分、大好きなケルン動物園へ。

Then I went to the Köln Zoo which is my favorite zoo by the sightseeing bus called "Zoo-Express" departing from around the Kölner Dom. (About 20 minutes)

At the entrance of Köln Zoo ケルン動物園入口にて ここは２年前に行ってすっかり気に入ってしまった動物園。 　>> 過去の記事はコチラ

今回もZOOday（動物園デー）にあたる月曜日に行ったので、通常の料金よりも安く入ることができました。

I like this zoo very much since I visited 2 years ago.

I went to the zoo on Monday. Monday is "Zoo Day", so that I could enter cheaper than usual admission fee.

前回見逃してしまったアクアリウムやキリン、鳥類等を見ることができて、大満足。 I am satisfied with visiting because I could see many animals that I missed last time.

そんなこんなで、あっと言う間のケルン滞在でした…。
Anyway, my stay in Cologne finished in the twinkling of an eye.

To Germany&Switzerland / ドイツ、そしてスイスへ [Journey]

妹の結婚式に出席するため、ドイツのケルン、スイスのバーゼルを中心に8日間程旅をしてきました。

I travelled about for 8 days to Cologne in Germany, and Basel in Switzerland, to attend my sister's wedding.

ケルンは２年ぶりですが、スイスは生まれて初めて行く国。スイスと聞くと、ついついアニメの「アルプスの少女ハイジ」を連想してしまいますが、美術・デザインの世界では、書体Helvetica（ヘルベチカ）が生まれたことや、木製玩具で世界的に有名なNaef（ネフ）社や、使用済のトラックの幌素材を使ったメッセンジャーバッグで有名なFREITAG（フライターク）社があり、また、建築家Le Corbusier（ル・コルビュジエ）や画家Paul Klee（パウル・クレー）の出身国であったりと、何かと話題豊富な国だったりします。というわけで、行く前からどんな国だろうかと、とても楽しみでした。

	I went to Colonge 2 years ago, but it's first time for me to go to Switzerland. We generally connect Switzerland with the Japanese famous animation "Heidi, Girl of the Alps". However, in the Art & Design field, many things and people are their native country. So I was looking forward to going there.
	For examples; Helvetica (Sans-serif typeface developed in 1957 by Swiss typeface designer Max Miedinger), Naef Spiele Ltd. Steam Locomotive at Chichibu Railway / 秩父鉄道SLの旅 [Journey]

11月最後の日曜日、Sちゃんの誘いで、秩父鉄道のSL（蒸気機関車）パレオエクスプレスに乗って来ました。

このSLは、運転日に一日一往復、熊谷（くまがや）〜三峰口（みつみねぐち）間８駅を片道約2時間40分かけてのんびりと走って行きます。

I took the steam locomotive of Chichibu Railway by S-chan's invitation the last Sunday in November.

At the Kumagaya station 熊谷駅にて This steam locomotive runs one round trip a day between Kumagaya station and Mitsumineguchi station (8 stops). It takes one way about 2 hours and 40 minutes and runs leisurely.

というわけで、熊谷駅から旅はスタート。Sちゃんが事前にSLの指定席券（¥700）＆秩父鉄道一日フリー乗車券（¥1,400）を購入してくれていたので、このあとの行程が非常にスムーズに。早速10:10am発の汽車に乗り込みます。

SLは実物を見るのも乗るのもこれが初めて。ついつい童心に返ってしまう…。

Our trip had started from Kumagaya station. S-chan had already bought the reserved ticket (700 yen) and one-day ticket (1,400 yen), so that our course could do well. Anyway, we got into the train which leaves at 10:10am.

I saw and took the real steam locomotive for the first time. I enjoyed myself like a child.

客車内では早速お弁当の販売が。「秩父路のSL　みそとん弁当」をゲット。美味でした〜。

In the train, the box lunches were sold at once. I ate a box lunch called "Miso ton bento (=Miso pork saute box lunch)". It was very tasty!

主要停車駅（寄居、長瀞、秩父ほか）では長めに停車時間が設定されているので、じっくりと撮影することができます。気分はすっかり “撮り鉄（=列車撮影を趣味とする人）”!?

Since stoppage time is set long at the major stations (Yorii, Nagatoro, Chichibu, etc), we can take a lot of the train's pictures. I was already railfan photographer's mood!?

どの駅も鉄道ファンのみならず、大勢の人たちが、集まっていました。

この乗務員の方（写真下）のおかげで、道中がとても楽しかった〜。撮影ポイントやSLにまつわるいろいろなお話、また美味しいおそば屋さんまで紹介してもらいました。

We could enjoy the trip very much through this crew. He told us the photography points, related story of the steam locomotive, his recommended Soba (=buckwheat) Noodles' restaurant, and so on.

12:49am、三峰口駅に到着！ We arrived at the Mitsumineguchi station at 12:49am.

客車から機関車を切り離す作業も見ることができます。

We can see the operation which disconnects a locomotive from a passenger car.

その後、乗務員の方に教えて頂いたオススメのそば屋さんへ向かうべく、普通電車で武州中川（ぶしゅうなかがわ）駅へ。駅のそばにそのお店はありました。

Afterwards, we went to the Bushu-Nakagawa station which is near the Soba Noodles' restaurant recommended by the aforesaid crew.

山菜かけそばをオーダー。とても美味しかった！！ I ate the "Sansai kake soba (=Soba Noodles with the edible wild plants)". It was so delicious!!

	そば屋さんの近くで幸運にも、復路で走るSLに遭遇。なんとも美しい光景です。
	Fortunately, we could see the steam locomotive near the Soba Noodles' restaurant. What a nice view!

秩父鉄道SLの旅は、西武秩父駅がある御花畑駅で下車して無事終了。
紅葉で色づく秩父の風景も楽しめて、大満足だった私。

Sちゃん、本当にありがとう！

This trip was over, after we got off at the Ohanabatake station which is nearby the Seibu-Chichibu station.
I was satisfied very much, because I could also enjoy seeing the autumn tints (red and yellow leaves) of Chichibu.

System of Ticket Gate / 改札システム [Journey]

箱根登山鉄道の駅で見かけた改札システム。
ICカードの普及で、既にこうなっていたとは…。

I saw the system of the ticket gate at the Hakone Tozan Railway's station.
Though the "IC card (=rechargeable contactless smart card)" gradually prevails in Japan, I didn't know it had already imported that system into the small station.

改札鋏（かいさつきょう）で切符に入鋏してもらった頃が懐かしい…。
文明の利器に一抹の寂しさを感じた私です。

I remembered that the station attendants had used the railway ticket punches.....
I felt some nostalgia for a convenience.

Switchback / スイッチバック [Journey]

鉄道好きにはたまらない『スイッチバック』。
箱根登山鉄道には3ヶ所あります。

There are three switchback points at Hakone Tozan Railway, and it is very popular among railroad funs.

信号所に停車するたび、進行方向が逆転し発車するので、ワクワク、ドキドキ…。思わず童心に返ってしまいます。

The train stops at every signal tower place (switchback points), it changes direction.

にわか“鉄子”の私は思わず興奮してしまいました。
お好きな方にはオススメかもしれませんね！

When I met with it, I was so excited like a kid.
If you are a railroad lover, I will recommend you to take this train!

Excursion in Hakone (Part2) / 箱根小旅行 その2 [Journey]

ホテルのチェックアウト後、２日目は箱根登山鉄道「宮ノ下」駅からスタート。

After checkout, our second day has started from the Miyanoshita station of Hakone Tozan Railway.

アンティークショップが立ち並ぶ通りを抜けて、各国の要人や著名人が多く宿泊したクラシックホテルとしても有名な富士屋ホテルへ。ここはジョンレノン＆オノ・ヨーコ夫妻が滞留したことでも有名なのだとか。

We went through the street where the antique shops stand in a row and got to the Fujiya Hotel famous as a classic hotel where many important people and public figures stayed. It is said that it is famous for Mr. and Mrs. Lennon (John and Yoko Ono Lennon) stayed here.

ざっと見学したあと、ホテル付近から所要時間２時間程で行ける散歩道＆ハイキングコースを歩いてみることに。線路を踏み越えて、ようやくスタート地点へ。

We looked around this hotel roughly, and then we tried to walk the path and hiking course which takes about two hours. After we had stepped over the railroad, we got to the starting point.

まずは、富士屋ホテルのベーカリーで購入したビーフカレーパンで腹ごしらえ。 濃厚なルーがぎっしり詰まっていて非常に美味でした。

At first, we ate the beef curry bread that we bought at the Fujiya Hotel's bakery. It was stuffed with a rich curry roux, and was very tasty.

ハイキングと言っても標高約800mの浅間山（せんげんやま）登山なので、普段歩き慣れていない私たちは、途中何度も休憩を取りました。
歩き始めて約40分、ようやく中腹へ。ここにはちょっとした見晴し台があり、天気が良いと富士山が見えるのだとか。

In spite of hiking, we had to climb the Sengen mountain which has an elevation of about 800 metres. We are unaccustomed to climb the mountain, so we had to rest many times.
About 40 minutes went by, we got to the mountainside. There is a small observatory, and if the weather is good, we can see the Mt. Fuji.

檜の良い香りにに包まれながら、続けて歩くこと約30分。ようやく山頂付近まで辿り着き…、

And we walked about 30 minutes wrapped with the fragrance of hinoki (=cypress), we reached the mountaintop neighborhood.....

ついに、頂上へ到着！ At last, we won the top of the mountain!

その後、時折見かける色の違う木を気にしつつ、「千条（ちすじ）の滝」を目指してひたすら下山し…、

Afterwards, we occasionally saw trees with different color, and we aimed at the waterfall called "Chisuji no taki" and went down the mountain.....

そして歩くこと約10分、小涌谷駅に到着。箱根登山鉄道に乗って箱根湯本駅まで戻り…、

And then, we walked about 10 minutes and got to the Kowakidani station. We returned to Hakone-Yumoto station by Hakone Tozan Railway.....

夕方発のロマンスカーを待つ間、駅近くの茶房でゆったりと時間を過ごし…、

We spent time leisurely at the tearoom near the station, while waiting for Romancecar of the evening departure.....

無事帰路につきました〜。
その後、筋肉痛に悩まされましたけれど…（笑）。

We returned home safely.
But after, I was troubled by a muscular pain...

Excursion in Hakone (Part1) / 箱根小旅行 その1 [Journey]

先日、真ん中の妹と箱根湯本へ一泊旅行に行って来ました。

箱根は、新宿から小田急ロマンスカーに乗って約１時間半という近場の温泉地。私も過去に何度か訪れている馴染みの町です。

The other day, I went on an excursion to Hakone-Yumoto with my middle sister.

Hakone is famous as a hot-spring town where it takes about one and a half hour from Shinjuku station by Romancecar (Limited Express Train). And I once went to there several times.

行きの車中では、予約しておいたお弁当に舌鼓をうちつつ、車窓を楽しみました。

In the train, we ate reserved box lunches, and enjoyed looking at the passing views from the train window.

初日は昼過ぎに箱根湯本駅に着いてから、
徒歩７分程度の場所にある、箱根町立郷土資料館へ行って箱根の歴史や文化に触れてみたり…、

First day, we arrived at Hakone-Yumoto station in the afternoon.
Afterward we went to the Hakone Local Museum which is located about 7 minutes walk from station, and learned Hakone's history and culture.....

一旦宿泊先に荷物を置いて、
箱根寄木細工（国指定の伝統工芸品）で有名な町、畑宿（はたじゅく）へ行き、伝統工芸の鑑賞、そして、江戸時代の街道の石畳をしばらく歩き（←登り？）、当時の人々へ思いを馳せてみたり…、

After we had left our baggage at hotel, we went to Hatajuku where it is famous as a Hakone Yosegi (=Wood Mosaic Work / One of the Traditional Crafts of Japan), and appreciated them.
And we walked (<--climbed??) an Edo Period's old road of the stone pavement for a while, and turned our thoughts toward the then people.....

芦ノ湖まで足を伸ばして、湖畔に立ち、昔家族で遊びに来たことを思い出してみたり…、

Besides, we went to the Lake Ashi, and stood on the shore, recalling the family trip.....

夜は宿泊先の温泉でしっかり疲れを癒し、豪華な夕食に満足しつつ、エステでアロママッサージを施術してもらってから、懐かしのゲームコーナーで遊び、眠くなるまでおしゃべりして一日を終えました。 つづく…。

At night, we relaxed in a hot-spring bath and enjoyed eating a wonderful dinner. And after we had a massage with aromatherapy, we enjoyed playing some games, and we talked until we became sleepy. Well, our first day had finished.....

Souvenir from Seoul / ソウルみやげ [Journey]

今回、韓国みやげとして購入したものは、「キムチ」と「韓国のり」、そして「柚子茶」。日本ではすでに馴染み深いこともあって、どれも喜ばれましたね。

The things which I bought as "Souvenir from Seoul" this time are "Kimchi","Korean Seasoned Laver", and "Citron Tea". In Japan, we are already familiar with them, so they were good for gifts.

ところで、妹と一緒に買ったクゥちゃん（←犬です）へのおみやげ。
By the way, I bought the souvenir to Coo-chan(<--dog name) with my sister.

	音の鳴るおもちゃとヘアピンセットを購入。日本に比べて激安でした。 We bought the toy which makes sound and a pair of the hairpins. They're very cheep as compared with Japan.
	残念ながらヘアピンはすぐ振り落としてしまいます…（笑）。 However, she shakes the hairpins off right away...

おもちゃは吸い付きようが違いますね…。逃げ足も早い〜。
She loves this toy! So she's quick to run away~.

Interesting Sign in Seoul / ソウルのおもしろ看板 [Journey]

ソウルを歩いていると、時折、立体看板が目に飛び込んできます。
When I walked around in the Seoul City, I had sometimes found some interesting signs.

At the Seoul City / ソウルの街なかで [Journey]

ソウルの街なかを歩いていると、どういう訳かよく道などを尋ねられます。やはり見た目が似ているからでしょうか…？

おかげで覚えた言葉がこれ。
「미안합니다 한국말 못해요（ミアナンミダ　ハングンマル　モッテヨ）」
これは「ごめんなさい、韓国語は話せません。」の意。

また行く機会があったら、もう少し話せるようにはなりたいものですね…。

When I walked within the Seoul City, somehow, I was often asked the way and something from Korean people. After all my looks is similar to the locals.

So I learned(=used a lot) these sentences from that experience.
"미안합니다 한국말 못해요"
It means "I'm sorry, I can't speak Korean".

If the occasion arises to go to Korea again, I wish to speak Korean well...

Sightseeing of Seoul / ソウル見物 [Journey]

滞在中はたまたま暖かい日が続いていたこともあり、全て半袖で過ごしました。そうなると、ついつい出歩きたくなる私。ソウル市内は、比較的平坦な道が多く、ぶらり歩き回れるのがいいですね。
ざっと様子をご紹介！

During my stay in Seoul, I wore short-sleeved T-shirts, because it had been warm. If it is so, I always feel to go around. The Seoul City is good for walk, because there're lots flat roads.
I'll show you some things.

Korean Food / ソウルでの食 [Journey]

健康に良い発酵物や野菜を多く取り入れているコリアンフード。今回の滞在では、さまざまな食べ物に出会いました。
まず焼肉。地元韓国の方に連れて行って頂いたこともあり、十分満喫。
本場での焼肉はやはり「言うこと無し」です！美味しいものは胃にもたれないんですね。実感しました。

とはいえ「自分たちでも開拓せねば、」ということで、ぶらり立ち寄った食堂。これがまたどこも良かった。メニューも日本語が併記されているところが多かったですね。

The Korean Food is good for the health which adopts fermented things and many vegetables. I met a lot of foods in this journey.
First, the broiled or grilled foods; especially the local Korean friends brought us to the restaurant, we're satisfied to eat!! I realized the delicious meat never sit heavy on the stomach.

And then we decided to find some restaurants by ourselves, so we dropped by certain restaurants. Every restaurants were good, and the menu was often written down by Korean and Chinese and Japanese. (Sometimes English included.)

Naengmyeon(=Cold Noodles in Soup) Buchimgae(=Vegitables or Seafood mixed into flour and then fried) 冷麺とチヂミ（プチムゲ）をオーダー。それ以外はすべて副菜（無料）です。 The other things(=side dishes) were all free!!

ガイドブックにも良く書かれていますが、頼んでもいないのにキムチをはじめ小皿料理が次々と出てきます。これは箸休めの小皿料理パンチャンと言われるもので、全てサービスというからびっくり。
To my surprise, though we didn't order, every restaurants served a lot of side dishes. It's called the "Banchan(sometimes"Panchan")" which is served as service.

	Other day's Order; Fried Pork with Kimchi and Beer 別の日に行った食堂での一コマ。豚キムチ炒めとビール（hite）を注文。
	Banchan (=Side Dishes) 副菜（無料）だけでこんなにたくさん! しかもご飯付き!! There're lots side dishes and with rice!! All were FREE!!!

この時はたらふく食べて飲んで一人8,000won(=1,040yen位）でした。や、安い…!
Despite having enough, it was just 8,000won per person in this case. How nice price!!!

おかげで胃腸の調子がすこぶる良く、毎日あんなに食べていたのに帰国後体重を計ってみたら1.5kg減！恐るべしコリアンフード。
キムチとコチュジャンはしばらく手放せそうにありません〜。

After my stomach and intestines have been fit, and though I ate much in this journey, I've lost weight(-1.5kg)~!
I still have been surprised at the Korean Food, so I keep to eat Kimchi and Gochujang for some time~.

Journey Again! / 旅、ふたたび [Journey]

ドイツ在住のヴァイオリニストの妹が、弦楽カルテット（Stuttgart Pegasos String Quartet)の韓国ツアーに今月の第２週から第４週にかけて参加します。彼らの演奏を聴くまたとないチャンスだと思い、行くことに決めた私。

とはいえ、先週までレギュラーの仕事（副業）で忙しく、また９月から週２回、語学スクールにも通い始めたため、なかなか思うようスケジュールが組めずにおりました。ようやく日程を決めたのが先週末。希望出発日はもう１週間を切っています。
結局、航空券やホテルの予約等をどうしたかというと、今回は全てインターネット上で手配しました。週末一気に多数のサイトをチェックし、希望条件の中で自分なりに一番安全性とコストが見合うものをチョイス。ま、この選択が良かったかどうかは、旅の中で実感するところでしょうけれど…。ともあれ、自宅に居ながらにして、いろいろなことが出来る時代になるなんて…。つくづく便利になったものだと感心しきり。

初アジア、初ソウル…、今回は初めてづくしの旅。
４日という短い間ですが、音楽のみならず、いろいろな事を吸収できればいいですね。

旅に持って行く『TRAVEL SKETCH』。 どんなふうにノートが埋まって行くか、楽しみです。 I always bring the "TRAVEL SKETCH". How do I note it!?

My sister who is a violinist living in Germany joins to the String Quartet（Stuttgart Pegasos String Quartet)'s Tour in Korea from the 2nd week to the 4th week of this month.
They perform through Korea, so I think it's a good chance to listen to their music.
Of course, I never been to Korea, so I want to go there, too!

When I decided to go to Korea in the beginning of this month, I couldn't chose the date.
Because my current work won't finished till 2nd week of this month and I have languages classes regularly twice a week.
Finally, I decided to go to Seoul for 4 days in this week. (I am absent the class once.)

However, I worked very hard until last week, I couldn't arrange all reservations; plane tickets, hotel reservation and so on.
Therefore, I tried to book everything on the web site and e-mail last weekend.
I thought it was a very convenient system, because we can compare the fees and any information staying at home!! So I could book everything and was satisfied.

Anyway, l go on a jorney!

Musical Instruments Museum in Bruxelles [Journey]

ベルギーのブリュッセル市内にある楽器博物館は、かつて英国老舗ブランド『OLD ENGRAND』が入っていたアールヌーヴォーの建物を全館改装したもの。古今東西1500点以上のコレクションが展示されています。
特にハープシコードやピアノ、弦楽器、管打楽器などおなじみの楽器は、装飾重視や家具の一部として利用されていた時代、技術・機能面が重視されてゆく時代など、紆余曲折を経て今に至っていることがよくわかります。
実物を目の当たりにした私は、先人たちの様々な試み、心意気に思わず感動してしまいました。

Musical Instruments Museum (=MIM) in the Bruxelles city in Belgium, all the buildings redecorated a building of the Art Nouveau that once British long-standing shop brand "OLD ENGRAND" was in.
There are more than 1,500 collections of musical instruments. And they houses an exhaustive panorama of ancient, modern and traditional music. So, when I saw them, I had been very impressed by the old people's various trials and dispositions.

入口で渡される赤外線ヘッドフォンを付けて楽器の前に立つと、その音を聞くことができます。 良いシステムだな…、と感心。 We can borrow the infrared headphones free at the entrance. When we stand in front of the musical instruments, we can hear the sound of the exhibited musical instruments.

最上階のレストランは、料理はもちろんですが、天気が良ければブリュッセルを一望できるテラス席もあるので、オススメ！
I recommend the top floor's restaurant. We can see the wonderful panoramic view, weather permitting.

Beer [Journey]

ベルギー、ドイツで出会ったビールたち。
種類が豊富で、とにかく安い！
ビール好きにはたまらないですね。羨ましい…。
I'll show some beers when I drunk in Belgium and Germany.
Many kinds of beers are there. And they were very tasty and cheep. So Nice~!!

ベルギービールはアルコール度数が高め。まずはブリュッセルから。
こちらの白ビールはフルーティな味わいなので、ビールの苦みがダメという方にはオススメかも。
The Belgian Beer's alcohol frequency is a little high.
This white beer is sweet taste.

ケルン在住の妹曰く、"SCHRECKENSKAMMER"は「驚きの間・部屋」の意味だそうで、巨大なビアサーバーがテーブルに運ばれてきた時には本当に驚きました！
My sister who lives in Köln, said to me "The meaning of the SCHRECKENSKAMMER is Surprise(or Wonder) Room."
So, I was very surprised when the huge beer server had been served at the table!

とても美味しいビールだったけれど、なぜかグラスにはピエロの姿(↑)が…。ちょっとコワイ…!?

OLYMPIASTADION BERLIN [Journey]

ワールドカップ決勝戦はベルリンのオリンピックスタジアムで行われますが、２ヶ月前の姿をご紹介。
The last match of FIFA World Cup is staged at the Berlin Olympiastadion. About two month ago...

芝生は造成中、屋根は清掃中、外もあちこち工事中、けれど人はまばら…。日本と違って、わりとのんびりとした様子でした。

スタジアムからは建築家ル・コルビュジエの作品「ユニテ・ダビタシオン」が見えます。
There is an "Unité d'habitation" near the stadium, which is one of the famous architect Le Corbusier's work.

何かと話題となった公式キャラクター。美味しいミントの飴が入っています。個人的にゴレオ６世（ボールは「ピレ」という名前なんだそう）は２頭身くらいがかわいいな。けれど見れば見るほど突っ込みどころ満載なキャラクターですね〜。敢えてここでは詳しく語りませんが…（笑）。

P.S. 中田選手の引退。賛否両論あるようですが、サッカーをいろいろな意味で牽引してくれた方だと思います。ともあれお疲れさまでした…。そして更なる活躍に期待しています！

Mineral Water [Journey]

炭酸水好きの私は、ヨーロッパを旅する時は特に楽しみ。
どこにでも売っていて、サイズも種類も沢山あります。もちろん値段も安め。そして何よりも豊富なボトルデザインにワクワクしてしまいます…。

いろいろ飲んだ中で特に面白かったのは、利用した航空機内で出されたウィーン産「VÖSLAUER」シリーズの「ohne」とベルギー産の「SPA」シリーズ。「VÖSLAUER」シリーズは、どれもキャップ部分が下の写真のように、何とも美しいカタチ。滑りにくい構造で、開けやすいのもポイント高し。
そしてもう一方は、どう見ても炭酸水が入っているように見えなかった「SPA」シリーズの「BARISART」。他に青と透明のボトルがありましたが、特にこの赤いボトルは、ジュースかアルコールか入っていそうな感じに見えてしまい、ラベルを見るまで炭酸水と分からなかったシロモノ。これも「所変われば品変わる」で当たり前の光景なんだろうな。ちなみに本体部分にはレリーフ状（浮き彫り）に跳び箱を飛んでいるような人のイラストが入っています。

Travel Sketch / タビノキロク [Journey]

早いものでもう６月も終わり…。今年も１年の折り返し地点まで来てしまいましたね。
ところで、４月から５月にかけて私は３週間近くドイツ、ベルギーと旅していました。大量に撮りためた写真や資料を仕事の合間にちょこちょこと整理し続けること約１ヶ月…。ようやく目処がたってきました。
これから少しずつお見せ出来ればと思っています。

旅の必需品は、A５サイズのノート＆ペン、そして色鉛筆。これとカメラさえあれば完璧！？
記憶の断片を書き留めたり、貼り付けたり…、もうお好みで。
のり、はさみ、紙テープ、定規、カッター、カッターマットなどがあると便利ですね。

I went on a journey to Germany and Belgium for about 3 weeks from April to May.(Design Research and Going to my Sister's Trio Concert)
Recently I try to gather together material (photos, goods... ) for design and art field in spare moments from my work. So, I'll sometimes show and tell about them.

More Items ; Paste, Scissors, Paper Tape, Ruler, Cutter , Cutter Mat

Draw, Stick and Write down... in a notebook for a piece of memory.
