前回の続きになりますが、ジョイフル本田で買い物中に遭遇した光景です。
The sequel to the last weblog. I saw this scene when we were shopping at the "JOYFUL HONDA Mizuho Store".

Zoo Köln / ケルン動物園 [Animal]
動物園ネタをもう少し引っ張りますが、ドイツで印象的だった動物園、もう一つご紹介いたしましょう。
その名はケルン動物園。ケルン中央駅から10分ほど地下鉄に乗り、ZOO/Flora（ツォー/フローラ）駅を下車するとすぐ目の前にその動物園はあります。
I'd like to tell one more about the impressive zoo in Germany.
That name is "Zoo Köln (Cologne)".

It takes about 10 minutes by subway (underground) from Koeln Hbf (=Cologne central station) and there is the zoo before eyes when we get off at the ZOO/Flora station. |
私は昨年春、ベルリンに続いてケルンを訪れた時に行ったのですが、中に入ってまず驚いたのは、広々とした園内で動物たちが実にのんびりと生活していること。先に紹介したベルリン動物園が動物の種類を多く知ることができる場所だとすると、このケルン動物園は生態を観察出来る場所なのかもしれません。
When I visited Cologne after Berlin last spring, I went to this zoo. And that I was surprised first for me to go into inside was the peaceful atmosphere which the animals live naturally in the extensive space. Supposing the Zoo Berlin which I introduced previously is a place which can know many kinds of species, this Zoo Köln may be a place which can observe ecology.

カワウソの姿・形に始まって、動き、穴に入る様子など、なんだかクゥちゃんに似ているな…と思ってしまった私。ミョーに親近感が湧いてしまったのでした…（笑）。
When I saw an otter, I thought that the figure, action, the appearance of going into the hole, look like my family's dog Coo-chan. I felt a close affinity between the otter and Coo-chan. |

また、周囲に溶け込むようにこんなライオンの像がさりげなくあったりします。こういう演出もステキですね。

たまたま行った時は月曜日だったので、ZOOday（動物園デー）にあたり、通常の入場料よりも安く入ることができました。もし行く機会のある方は、ぜひ月曜日（祝日を除く）をオススメします！
*現在は大人一般13ユーロのところ、ZOOdayの日は9.50ユーロで入れます。
この動物園、ガイドブックにはあまり載っていませんが、ピクニック気分で和気あいあいとのんびりと楽しめるところなので、私の中ではイチオシの動物園かも…。またいつか行きたいですね！
When I went, it was Monday by chance. Monday is "Zoo Day", so that I could enter cheaper than usual admission fee. If someone goes to this zoo, I recommend you to go on Monday (except holiday).
*Nowadays the admission fee for adults is 13 Euro, but Zoo Day is 9.50Euro.
Although this zoo doesn't appear on the guidebook very much, it is one of my favorite zoos, because we can feel friendly and leisurely. I wish I could go there again someday!

Sleeping Animals [Animal]
ベルリン動物園では、気持ち良さそうに眠っている動物によく出会いました。
When I went to the Zoo Berlin, I often saw the comfortably sleeping animals.

Zoo Berlin / ベルリン動物園 [Animal]
前回の話に絡めて、今回はベルリン動物園をご紹介。
ここは1844年に完成したドイツ初の動物園で、世界最大規模を誇る種類の動物たちが飼育されています。昨年末誕生した白クマの赤ちゃん「Knut（クヌート）」が大きく報道されたので、ご存知の方も多いかもしれませんね。私は残念ながら昨年春に訪れたので、お目にかかることができませんでしたが…（笑）。
I'll tell you about the "Zoo Berlin" related to the Berlin's topics this time. This zoo with the world's largest number of species is the first zoo in Germany completed in 1844. Perhaps you might already know about this zoo because it was heavily covered in news about the polar bear baby Knut which was born in last Dec. Regrettably I couldn't see him because I went there in spring last year.
大都市のど真ん中に位置するこの動物園はZoologischer Garten駅（ツォーロギシャー・ガルテン=動物園）を降りてすぐ目の前にあります。東京で言うと新宿や渋谷駅前に動物園がある感じ。とにかく規模の大きさに驚きます。一歩中に入るともうそこは異空間。あちこちから聞こえてくる動物の声と匂いのシャワーが入場者たちを出迎えてくれます。

This zoo located in the center of the metropolis is in front of the Zoologischer Garten station (=zoological garden station). Anyway, I was surprised at the size of the scale. If we set foot in there even a little, we can feel different space. |

ガラスドームの中で飼育されているカバ（写真左下）と水鳥（写真右下）。水槽越しに彼らの姿を見ることが出来ます。
A hippopotamus [Upper left-hand] and a waterfowl [Upper right-hand] which are bred in glass dome. We can watch them over the water tank.
パンダが屋外でのびのびと歩いています。
A giant panda is free in its gait.

だそうです。
少々高めな印象ですが、一見の価値有り！オススメです。

Cats in Hakone / 箱根の猫 [Animal]
数年ぶりだった姉妹での旅行は、割と行き当たりばったりで気の向くままに動いていたのですが、思いがけず発見が多く、盛りだくさんな2日間でした。女性同士だとレディースプランを利用できるので、お得で便利ですね。オススメです。
This Hakone excursion which I went to with my sister after an interval for several years was so colorful two days. Though we didn't plan and followed our bent, we unexpectedly found many things, places, meeting people, and so on. If only women, we can use the "Lady's-plan (=the tour-plan that limited for women)", so we can gain much profit. I recommend it!
ところで、旅の途中、猫たちによく出会いました。
By the way, we often met cats during our trip.

The Relaxed Cat / くつろぐネコ [Animal]
日曜日の昼下がり。
街を歩いていると、とあるカフェでくつろぐネコを発見。
When I strolled the streets in the early afternoon on Sunday, I found a relaxed cat at a certain cafe.

Avoid Heat / 暑さ対策 [Animal]
梅雨にも拘らず、東京では連日暑い日が続いています。
Despite the rainy season, the hot weather continues day after day in Tokyo.
またもや動物ネタと言われそうですが、最近実家周辺でよく見かけるようになったネコです。

【ニューヨーク２０日時事】「手」（前脚）をつないで水面を漂っている愛らしいラッコのカップルを撮影したビデオがインターネット上に掲載され、２カ月で累計約６０４万回のアクセスを獲得する人気を博している。カップルを飼育するカナダの水族館も、絶滅危惧（きぐ）種に指定されているラッコの保護に向けた啓発になると大歓迎だ。
一躍スターになったのは、カナダ・バンクーバーにあるバンクーバー水族館で飼われている１７歳のメスのニアクと７歳のオスのミロ。ニアクは、１９８９年にアラスカで起きた超大型タンカーの原油流出事故に巻き込まれて保護された環境問題の「生き証人」だ。

Vancouver sea otters a hit on YouTube

A pair of sea otters at the Vancouver Aquarium have become international stars, with more than 1.5 million people watching a video of them on the popular YouTube website in the past two weeks.
Nyack and Milo have become YouTube's top-rated animal video ever.
The video is not new. It was shot five years ago by a student at the University of B.C. Cynthia Holmes, now a professor in Florida, said she decided to post the video just two weeks ago.
"It's just sort of an interesting phenomenon. Everybody's linked to it. I don't think it's a particularly remarkable video. I think it's cute."
It's not the first time Nyack has been featured on TV. She was one of the few sea otters to survive getting coated with oil during the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska back in 1989. She was cleaned up and flown to Vancouver, where she has thrived ever since.
Aquarium officials said they hope the internet audience learns that the otters are not only cute, but are an endangered species as well.
